 Wei brings over 20 years of broadcasting experience to the OMNI newsroom. In 1999, he started anchoring OMNI News: Mandarin Weekend, and when OMNI.2 launched in September2002, he became the news anchor for OMNI News: Mandarin Edition. For ten years prior to joining OMNI, Wei was a producer, writer, director and host in various capacities for the Chinese media.Wei has covered a diverse collection of stories, including narrating a Mandarin version of the piece "Mushuau Innu: Surviving Canada." The story won the Canadian Association of Broadcasters' Gold Ribbon for Excellence in Aboriginal Programming and the Amnesty International Canada Media Award in the Video/Audio Category. It was described as “poignantly illustrating the pain inflicted upon Indigenous people when decisions are taken out of their hands, and the follow-up support all Canadians have a right to expect is removed.”But no matter what the topic or focus, Wei says that each story is just as important as the next. “For me, every individual story is unique and every interviewee is unique too - they all stood out in my mind,” he said.Wei has a voice familiar to movie-lovers. He’s sometimes asked to do Mandarin voiceovers for popular movies, and has completed Disney films such as Toy Story and Beauty and the Beast, and Warner Bros. movies such as Superman.Wei is often involved in Chinese community events, especially in the Taiwanese communities. In his spare time, he likes to play basketball, snooker, ping-pong. He also enjoys weekend movie parties with his wife Rachael, and his two daughters, Ching-Ching and Cynthia.
