News Anchor and Reporter
Angie began her career in broadcast news when she was asked to join OMNI Television in 1999. She worked as a reporter and news coordinator and also produced Ishtyle and Bollywood Boulevard. Now, Angie is a full-time reporter and anchor for OMNI News: South Asian Edition.Angie holds an Honors degree in Political Science from the University of Toronto and enjoys reporting on political stories that require analysis. “I like to give the audience something to think about – if I’m interviewing someone, I like to challenge them and ask the hard questions,” she said.One of her most memorable stories involved an interview with reporter Daniel Pearl’s father. She also feels a strong connection to stories dealing with Sharia law and the Air India case. She says that when you communicate with these people on a personal level, they become like family.“I recently did a story about a couple who has been trying to adopt a child from India for over two years, and they finally adopted a son…I was one of the first people they called – that’s really something, that makes your job worth it,” she said.Angie’s own family includes her husband Roy, a senior manager in banking, and daughter Katie.Angie writes for the Canadian Association of Journalists regularly and is often interviewed about topics of concern to South Asians. She hosts community events and participates in fundraisers for the Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce, the Canadian Breast Cancer Association, and Save the Children. Angie is also a runner. She’s participated in five marathons, including the Boston marathon in 1999. She’s previously worked as an organizer for road races and was constantly dealing with the media in that capacity before joining the media herself.
