Falafel in a Pita - Joe’s Hamburgers

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup chickpeas (drained and rinsed)
  • 1 cup fava beans (drained and rinsed)
  • 1/3 cup of fresh parsley
  • 1 garlic clove minced
  • 1/2 tsp cumin/li>
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • Pure Olive oil
  • Shredded Lettuce
  • Chopped Tomato
  • Chopped Onions
  • Pita bread
  • Tahini or hot sauce to taste

In a food processor, grind together the chickpeas, the fava beans, the parsley, the cumin and the garlic. After grinding, add the baking soda and mix everything well. Add oil to a deep pan (about 2 inches deep) and heat to about 160 to 180 degrees Celsius. Make small patties with a tablespoon and fry them in the hot oil for a few minutes, until they darken in color. Remove and let the patties cool down.

Warm up the pita bread and open in half. Add falafel, lettuce, tomatoes and onions. Pour either Tahini or hot sauce and enjoy!
