Midnight Ballads: Key Creative Bios: Yanick Létourneau, Producer
An active filmmaker and dedicated producer, Yanick Létourneau is the co-founder of Périphéria productions, an up-and-coming film, TV and New Media production company based in Montreal that specializes in youth, popular culture and social issues. Yanick directed and produced Chronique Urbaine (2003), a feature length documentary taking an intimate look at prominent Hip hop artists in French-speaking Canada. In 2004, he won the Pierre And Yolande Perrault Prize for “best emerging documentary filmmaker” during Les Rendez-vous du cinéma québécois after which the film traveled to US, Europe and Africa. He produced Souvenir Kids (2005. Zone Libre Documentaire on SRC & RDIand Passionate Eye on CBC) and more recently Midnight Ballads (2006) by Diego Briceno. He is currently producing Territories, by Mary-Ellen Davis, a documentary on Larry Towell, a renowned photojournalist from the Magnum Photo Agency, as well as working on his next feature film, United States of Africa in co-production with the National Film Board of Canada and South Africa.
