Bert has overseen the successful growth of Deveaux Babin Productions for the past 20 years. Under Bert’s direction the company has expanded from producing educational videos to creating documentaries, dramas and reality television programs that are sold around the world. With over 35 years experience in television, video and the print media Bert has the proven management and production skills to handle large scale productions.

As president Bert plays a key role in every aspect of Deveaux Babin Productions. He oversees all productions, staff, distribution and operations at the company, as well as steering the company towards financial growth Bert is responsible for project budgets, the scheduling and financial analysis of each project.

Bert began his media career in New Brunswick where he created his own newspaper, The Plain Dealer. He then moved to CBC Television as an investigative reporter, first for The MacIntyre Files in Halifax and then on to CBC Sunday Morning and the 5th Estate in Toronto.

Bert lived in Los Angeles for two years to executive produce Housecalls, a four million dollar budgeted syndication reality series for Buena Vista. He oversaw a staff of 52 employees and brought the series in under budget.

House Calls
BUENAVISTA
Bert worked as the executive producer of our prime-time series House Calls - a weekly show about relationships.  As the company executive in charge of the 85 episodes, Bert was responsible for the show’s philosophy, direction and for meeting the delicate balance between the needs of advertisers, broadcasters and the audience they serve. He hired and managed a staff of fifty two people, including writers, producers and editors, who worked as a true team along with the technical crews to bring the daily show to air.

 

Scams
TVO                In this three part series for TVO, the Knowledge Network and W, this show uncovered the latest scams and fraud. Bert worked with law enforcement officials hot on the tails of scammers. A directorially challenging project, Bert successful directed crew members and law enforcement officials literally under the gun at stings, busts and raids.

Justice is Coming
Movie trailer produced for Canada, US and Switzerland on the hidden costs of Wal-Mart Superstores around the world. 

 

Love 911
LIFE NETWORK
                        Bert co-directed and co-produced this 26-episode reality series on couples and families in crisis for the Life Network

She’s Happier There
Bert worked very closely with the client and its committee and with Governor- General Award winning playwright Judith Thompson to produce and direct a drama that would speak to young people about the problem of elder abuse. It was Bert’s job to ensure that the facts and message would emerge through a compelling story, thereby capturing the hearts and minds of the audience.
He oversaw the production from its inception, through to the pre-production, shooting and final on-line edit.            
            


Suzanne Babin

Suzanne enthusiasm, talent and “never say die” attitude is one of the reasons Deveaux Babin has become recognized as a company which consistently delivers award winning programming. Her job as vice president is to create shows and see them through phases of internal development to the point where she pitches the projects and works with the broadcaster on developing the series or documentary. Part of Suzanne’s expertise is putting together unique financing structures which focus on the specific needs for each project. She has helped bring many of Deveaux-Babin’s projects to life including Housecalls, Scams, Love 911, Not My Home; They Speak in Whispers and Bisexuality.

Suzanne  helped establish the company after 12 years at the helm of some of CBC Radio’s most successful current affairs programs including producing for Metro Morning, the ‘4-6 Show’, Sunday Morning, Morningside & CBC Radio out of Halifax.

House Calls
BUENA VISTA
Suzanne was the driving force behind House Calls.  Suzanne directed many of the 78 episodes when based in LA.  Initially introduced in Canada, Deveaux Babin eventually produced Housecalls for Buena Vista and was telecast over 92% of US stations.  

They Speak in Whispers
NEWSWORLD
                        A documentary produced for Newsworld which investigated the link between the environment and the rise in children with cancer. The doc followed the lives of cancer-stricken kids and their parents and conducted all the interviews for this sensitive work.

Not My Home
NEWSWORLD
Producer of the award-winning documentary Not My Home for Newsworld. From her research, she was able to conceptualize the cinema verité style which enabled viewers to witness the feeling, frustrations and hopes of the elderly who live there.

Flash
                        A dramatic TV series for tweens about young girl and a magical hose set in Cape Breton Island.  Suzanne is the co-creator of Flash, the series. Currently in development.

 

 

Leona Gilbert

Joining Deveaux-Babin five years ago as a producer for Love 911 for the LIFE network, Leona has shown to be an assertive producer and director ever since. Known for her flair in creative marketing, Leona has lent her eye to create contemporary visuals which brand Deveaux-Babin’s projects as unique in the world of factual information programming. A key part of the creative team, Leona comes up with ideas, develops and helps to pitch to broadcasters across North America.

As writer and director, Leona created, researched and sold this Polish language documentary to OMNI TV. The one-hour documentary follows three Polish women war survivors back to Poland to revisit their childhood homes for the fist time since the war.

Co-producer and writer of this 28-part Life Network reality series about couples at the end of their relationship ropes.  

Acadian World Congress
Music Video
Produced for the Cape Breton tourist board, and shot in Cape Breton over 2 months for the Acadian World Congress.  Leona directed and edited this short, emotional music video celebrating the vitality and beauty of the Cape Breton Acadian community.

Reaching In, Reaching Out
U of T
 
                        Leona co-wrote and co-produced this documentary produced for the  University of Toronto on resiliency in young children.  The documentary  followed a three groups of young children aver the course of six months to uncover their resiliency to bullying, parental separation and other classroom issues. She co-directed all shooting for the doc which took place in a series of classrooms over a six month period. 

Gimme a Break
Leona was instrumental in creating and writing this road-trip comedic ‘teen’ feature length film about the impact of a big box store on a small Cape Breton community.  Leona co-wrote the script along with Bert Deveaux and Bruce Pirrie of Second City and the Red Green Show.  Gimme a Break was completed in Mid-March of 2006.

A natural sense of curiosity is what makes Warren Chin a great editor. Not to mention his meticulous attention to detail, his sense of the narrative, plus the bragging rights to a Gemini scoring sports documentary called The New Ice Age. A talented and precise editor with a writing background, Warren’s a master in the edit suite because of his ability to work both sides of the technical and creative coin.

Find Warren Chin’s trademark clean edits on projects including W Network’s The Decorating Challenge, Documentary Channel’s Private Parties: Lives Exposed (as both co-writer and offline editor), Discovery’s Dinosaur Babies, and TVO’s Move Your World: AIDS in Africa, which nabbed an Audience Award at the Sprockets International Film Festival. 

With more than 10 years under his belt, Warren’s experience has run the gamut: from indie films and music videos to documentaries to TV specials and promos. Recent projects include: Rising Stars for CTV, as well as ongoing work on W Network’s Take This House and Sell It and new series entitled Single Girl Diaries

Warren has been editing with Deveaux Babin Productions for the past six years on numerous projects.
