ARCHIE ALLEYNE:
is a musical pioneer who has been on the music scene in Toronto since the 1950s.
Over the years the Canadian drummer has played with performers Lester Young, Ben Webster, Billie Holiday, Milt Jackson, Stan Getz, Roy Eldridge, Carmen McRae and Zoot Simms. And he has toured with, among others, Oliver Jones and Jim Galloway.
Between 1970 and 1982 Alleyne gave up music to become a restaurateur. He was co-owner of the now closed soul food restaurant Underground Railroad.
In 1982 Alleyne resumed his musical career as a drummer. He also is the leader of Kollage, a group of young jazz players.
