HERB CARNEGIE:
an Order of Canada recipient is a hockey pioneer and community leader. He started his first hockey school for boys in 1955. He also wrote the Future Aces Creed, which encourages children to respect themselves and others, to play and work cooperatively, and to develop self-confidence and self-esteem.
The Future Aces Creed has been adopted by a number of schools in Toronto.
In 1987 Carnegie created the Herbert H. Carnegie Future Aces Foundation, which provides 25 scholarships, worth $1,000 each, each year to civic-minded students in financial need.
Carnegie, a recipient of the Order of Canada has also been inducted into Canada's Sports Hall of Fame. He has received a number of awards including: the Order of Ontario, the Harry Jerome President's Award and the B'nai Brith Certificate of Recognition.
Carnegie's autobiography, A Fly In a Pail of Milk was published in 1999.
