JACKIE WASHINGTON:
is Hamilton-born jazz, blues and folk musician. He began his musical career in 1924, at the age of five, when he sang with The Four Washington Brothers.
Washington's repertoire of more than 1,200 songs extends from the days of slavery to present. During his long career he was worked with many performers, including Duke Ellington, Billy Holliday, Lionel Hampton, Clark Terry, Joni Mitchell, Gordon Lightfoot and John Lee Hooker.
Still performing across Canada, Jackie Washington has been awarded an honorary Doctorate in Humanities by Hamilton's McMaster University.
