MILT OTTEY:
one of Canada's former top high jumpers was among the first winners of the Harry Jerome Award in 1983.
A Canadian Olympian, Ottey was the country's high jump champion from 1979 to 1992. His many other athletic achievements include being a Commonwealth Games gold medalist, a Pan Am Games medalist and NCAA champion. In 1982 he was ranked number one in the world in high jump.
Ottey, who holds a Bachelor of Science in education degree from the University of Texas El Paso has been a track and field coach at the University of New Mexico and Kent State University. He has since returned to Canada where he has coached at the University of Toronto, and is a coordinator/consultant with Over the Top Performance Athletics.
