My Grandmother - Ingrid Berzins Leuzy

Ingrid Berzins Leuzy, a graduate of the Gerontology program at College Marie-Victorin, made a career change in 1998 after working for decades with indigent women in Montreal. Her writing, which is her life-long passion, led to having articles published in The Gazette and various community papers. A project for one particular non-profit agency led to producing a fund raising video entitled Come Home to Fulford (1998), followed by producing a series of 40, four-minute vignettes on shoestring budget renovations for Debbie Travis on CBC's morning news show.

By 1999 she was co-producing a show about women and their finances for WTN (the women's television network), called Her Money, a show that was nominated for a Gemini Award in 2001. A passionate belief that film and television should be used to make the world a better, more tolerant place, she pursued studies in Communications at Concordia University, obtaining her certificate in 2001.

Ingrid is currently writing a book about her work with elderly women and has formed a production company called Baltalya Betulla Productions, with former Whalley Abbey colleague, Anita Aloisio. My Grandmother, a documentary meant to tell the stories of immigrant women who came to Canada during the 1960's, and 1970's, explores how the cultural traditions these women brought here have forever enriched our Canadian fabric, while also reminding viewers that grandmothers offer more than just stories about the past.
